Performance degradation of flash card in Win_XP

Post by zmau » Fri, 17 Aug 2007 22:57:56

Hi all!

I have a flash disk on a (Mobile) PC.
There seems to be a major performance degradation between Win2K and
Win_XP (Win_XP takes about 4 times than Win2K).

Can anyone help ?

Thanks
Maurice

For FAT formatted drives with drive type 'removable' XP
has (nearly) no write cache while W2K has. Format the
drive with NTFS, then XP activates a write cache.

Thanks, I had tested your advice, and it is good and correct. But, the
flash card is also in use of another (non-windows) system. So, it must
be in FAT formatted. Is there any thing else I can do ?

No, as far as I know there is no way to activate the write
cache for FAT formatted 'removable' USB drives under XP and
Vista. All you can do is to avoid writing small files, so
create a ZIP file on harddisk and copy this to the card...
