When you save a JPG file it will be compressed - anew. For that
reason you should *never* just do a Save - keep the original for
another occasion, and then do a Save As of the edited picture under a
new name. When you Save As in Irfan, a Panel appears for various
settings, especially Quality. The Quality makes an enormous
difference to size. You need to experiment as between size and
acceptable losses - I find 40% a reasonable start point

Damn :( Didn't know that, thanks!
I didn't think it'd do that if I just cropped, since I would have thought
it could just delete the "code" for the part deleted, not having to
re-encode.
I wonder if that's what would happen if you only chopped the bottom, and
not the sides. Then it theoretically would only have to delete some from
the end of the file..
So I guess there's basically no way to edit a pic and not take some loss
due to re-encoding? Kinda like with MP3's.
Is it better to convert to BMP, edit, then back to JPG as it is with audio
(MP3 to WAV, edit, back to MP3)?
