Liteon CD-RW problem

Post by Ray Johnst » Tue, 30 Sep 2003 14:21:35

I want to copy files from my hard drive to CD using a Liteon external
CD writer. It goes well on a PC running win2000 but no success on my
Toshiba laptop running win98.What am I missing? Do I need to use the
floppy labelled USB Driver V1.45 that came with it?

USB on Windows 95 is very spotty. The following conditions must be met:
1. The motherboard manufacturer must provide Windows 95 drivers for the
onboard USB.
2. You must have the version of Windows 95 that supports USB and install
the program:

3. The device must come with Windows 95 specific drivers (what does it say
on the box for system requirements?).

And even if all three conditions above are met; it may not work.

Thanks but I'm using win98.

I noticed that. I wondered why he was banging on about win95, not
enough caffine perhaps? :-)

I'm guessing that win2k, like winXP, has cd writing support built in,
i.e. you don't need to install a seperate cd writing program like Nero
"Burning Rom" or (yeuch, spit!) adaptec's cd "cremator" like you do with
win98.

Have you installed a cd writing program on the win98 machine? If so,
which one?

Thanks. I'm using Nero, which tells me that I've successfully copied a
file. But the "write" light on the unit doesn't come on and the CD
doesn't spin. And no instructions re the floppy.

Why are you posting in a Windows 95 group?

Ah! Nero, good ol' Nero. Did you *select* the writer in the 'choose
recorder' option. There's *always* an image recorder and (sometimes) the
actual cd writer itself in the list. If there's *only* the image
recorder listed, you'll have to download an update from the Nero
website.

OTOH, if your copy of nero was an OEM version bundled with another
drive, you won't have this option. Usually, in this case, nero will
remind you that it is a version that will only support the drive it came
bundled with.

AFAIR, I don't think there *is* a comp.os.ms-windows.win98.misc group.
This NG is a 'catch all' for win9x stuff so it's not unusual to see
win98 stuff here.
