I lost my jewel case with the registration key on it. Is there a way
to extract the code from the disk?
I have Win98 on this machine.

The Windows 95 ProductID is not on the install CD or floppys, only a formula
for verifying that you entered a valid ProductID.

If you registered your Windows 95, then Microsoft Tech Support may be able
to help you.

If this is an OEM version of Windows 95, then tech support at the
manufacturer may be able to help you. (Examples of OEMs: Dell, Gateway,

It is possible that you could buy a copy of Windows 95 including a valid
ProductID from a source such as Ebay.

If you are not concerned about Microsofts copyrights and end-user
agreements, then Google Groups is your freind:

The message <bkpo08$4db5p$ XXXX@XXXXX.COM >
from "Kay Archer" < XXXX@XXXXX.COM > contains these

The solution is quite simple :-)

The format is dddyy-oem-00xxxxc-nnnnn

where ddd is the day number of the year and yy the last 2 digits of the
year indicating date of issue of the licence. It is the middle group of
digits that are critical. The first 2 are *always* 0 and the remaining 5
must form a number exactly divisible by 7 when summed. The c digit is a
checksum digit set so that the sum of the individual xes and c create a
number which is an exact multiple of 7. It either cannot be 0 or 7 (I
forget which is the invalid value for the moment). The last five digits,
nnnnn, can be anything you like.
