OpenVMS V8.4 I64 DCL-dir command fails!

Post by Heuse » Thu, 30 Sep 2010 18:51:12

Hi,

Since yesterday I'm testing V8.4.

Now I found the first strange behavior.

The DCL-dir-command fails:

dir sys$sysdevice:[*...]

stops working:

%DIRECT-E-OPENIN, error opening SYS$SYSDEVICE:[CDRECORD_ARCHIV.
000.CDRTOOLS-2_01
_01A11.RULES.RULES]*.*;* as input
-RMS-E-ACC, ACP file access failed
-SYSTEM-F-FILNOTACC, file not accessed on channel

The message indicates a bug, because
SYS$SYSDEVICE:[CDRECORD_ARCHIV.000.CDRTOOLS-2_01_01A11.RULES]
has no directory called RULES.DIR.

Is this kind of bug a candidate for anon ftp?????

I'm all for finding and reporting bugs in V8.4, but I don't find any issue
with '$ DIRECTORY [*...]'

Perhaps you'd care to '$ DUMP' and a '$DUMP/DIRECTORY' of

SYS$SYSDEVICE:[CDRECORD_ARCHIV.000.CDRTOOLS-2_01_01A11]RULES.DIR

and post the results.

I mean: If ftp.itrc.hp.com doesn't allow anon ftp for all patches but
for the
(security?) relevant patches is a DCL/DIRECTORY patch
downloadable
for free or not?

Hi,

this is a know bug. Ran into the problem as well.

HP support was able to give me access to a patched
RMS.EXE image, which fixed the problem.

Don't suppose there's any chance that they'll release the relevant
patch before the lockdown occurs on October 5th...

Perhaps, and this is the cynic in me talking, these bugs are intentionally
contrived as a way to force people to pay for their fix patches??? Hmm???
