It's somewhere in the session/application layers isn't it?

RTP consists of two protocols, a data transfer protocol, called RTP,
and a control protocol (RTCP). Both of these run on top of UDP. Even
though RTP is concerned with transporting application data for a
variety of application-level formats, I think since it runs on UDP that
it is itself application level rather than transport level in TCP/IP
terms. In OSI terms, it has session/presentation functionality. BTW,
RTP by itself is not complete. It is completed by modifications and/or
additions to the RTP headers to include application-layer
functionality.

Thanks, Bill,

Do you mean to say that RTP is an APPLICATION LAYER and TRANSPORT LAYER
protocol??

In article < XXXX@XXXXX.COM >,

No, I would consider it an application layer protocol in terms of the
TCP/IP suite and an application/presentation/layer protocol in terms of
the OSI model.
