Problem seeing all the tape drives in MSL 5060 Tape Library

Problem seeing all the tape drives in MSL 5060 Tape Library

Post by yssong6 » Sun, 14 May 2006 02:18:19

I have an HP MSL 5060 tape library with 2 x LTO-1 tape drives. The
library is connected to a Brocade SAN switch via Fibre-Channel and the
2 LTO-1 drives in the library are SCSI daisy-chained and connected to
the library's NSR1200 FC-to-SCSI router.

On my backup server side (Sun 480R: tried Solaris 8 & Solaris 10 for
this), I have no problem seeing the library's WWN and its first drive
as /dev/rmt/0 with proper WWN-based zoning and HBA driver, etc. but no
matter what I tried, the library's 2nd drive is not visible from the
server. I am thinking of one possibility on the library side.

My existing other backup server (Sun 280R), though, has no problem
seeing both drives in the same library and I initially suspected the OS
side but I have everything installed and configured properly and don't
see anything wrong in both SW and HW sides.

So I know suspect the library side.
Is there some known problem that a host can see the library and its
drives only partially because of some firmware issue on NSR1200 router?
I have the latest firmware on the library and the 2 drives.

I'd greatly appreciate your advice!

Thanks.

My advice would be to ask in an appropriate newsgroup because your
problem has nothing to do with HP-UX or HP9000 hardware (and that's what
this group is for). You can try to ask in comp.sys.hp.hardware, and
since you use Sun servers you should also ask in the sun hardware group.
