What is a good DVD external burner?

What is a good DVD external burner?

No experience with burners on Mac (as yet), but in general:
Get a box with Firewire and/or USB2.
Go to one of these sites and read reviews:

http://www.yqcomputer.com/
http://www.yqcomputer.com/

Then go get a writer that seems fit for your purposes (WRT format
compatibility: DVD+/-) and stuff't in the external box. Easy, ehh?

A few notes. Unless you really need to burn duallayer DVD, forget about
the adverticed speeds there. Those media are still quite expensive, and
often media burned in one writer may not be read in another reader.
Even with normal DVD media (4.7GB), you need really good quality media
to burn at fast speeds, so though burners annonce so-and-so fast writing
speeds, take your best bet on using slower writing speeds for stability.

Having worked in a PC shop, my experiences are that you generally get
what you pay for. There are exceptions, though...
I have a NEC 3520a which is not any more expensive than others. Read a
lot of reviews before buying; it's a bit of a jungle getting into ;)

BTW: you xpost quite a lot

1. Mac mini DVD burner/drive DEAD...good external replacement?

2. How to burn DVD's from my iMovie projects with an external DVD burner ?

I just bought an internal PC DVD+ burner that i put in a FW enclosure.
Toast is recognizing it... I burned my two first data DVD disks...
My internal combo GCC-4120B drive can read DVD+R ;-) but not the DVD+RW ;-(

Now I would like to burn my iMovie projets with VERY GOOD VIDEO QUALITY!!!

I tried to make VCDs with Toast... Video quality really sucks!

Some times ago, i tried to encode as divx with divxpro 5.0.5...
Quality is much better than VCDs but calculating the right rate is an hard
task for me (my last try made a 410MB .avi file from a 15GB Pal DV file)

Now I need to free space on my HD.
What do you suggest me to do?

As I understood, there are two steps :
1/ convert my .mov files with a DVD codec (I'm newbie in convertion)
Ideally , i would like to create chapters (or tracks?)
2/ burn

Is iDVD the right app to make the job done?

Thanks

note: if a more appropriate NG exists for my question, I will be gratefull
that you inform me witch one.
