HOW To: Disable internal CRT on REV D imac

Post by MSE » Fri, 13 Feb 2004 06:13:27

I have a Flower Power (REV D?) imac that is suffereing from the crappy
analog vid board/Flyback *** malaise. Thing runs like a top, boots fast
w/OS 10.3, but it arcs and that's all she wrote. I don't want to go down the
$250+ parts/repair bill for this.

I've heard that the internal CRT can be disabled, which will bypass the
analog board, ceasing that issue, and mac can run an external LCD

CAn anyone shed light on how to do this, or is there a web page with
directions?
thanks!
Would like to get a couple more years out of this for my kids to do school
work/internet on

e-mail okay

You can just pull the socket from the base of the CRT, but that won't
"bypass the analog board". There are sites on the web that have service
manuals, but it's not obvious what else essential is on the
"Power/Analog/Video board".

If it's -only- the flyback *** then somebody must be running an
aftermarket in these. Any half competent TV serviceman could change it
for much less than US$250. We used to buy them locally made for MacPlus,
and they lasted longer than Apple's...
