Need a Printer

Post by Paul Kraus » Sat, 09 Dec 2006 11:22:39

After 6 faithful years my Epson Stylus 860 just died.
No black printing at all
Color works fine.

cartidge has ink and cleaning utility makes no difference.

I assume it has outlasted its usefulness.

haven't bought a printer in ages

will probably stick with Epson.... have always liked them.
Am also opento other than epson if people think there are better choices

Any suggestions as to what model to get

looking for around $100

nothing fancy needed... maybe a slot for memory cards would be nice

One feature that you might want is the ability to write
on cds/dvds. The R3xx model does photos and prints to cds.
Ink cost is high.

If you haven't printed for awhile it could be a clog in the cartridge.
Buying a new one might fix the problem. Apparently with ink jets you
have to print something every couple of days or else.

Actually I print daily. I tried replacing the cartridge but the printer
will not move the heads out so I can change them. Frankly after 7 years
daily use, plus two dissertations and 2 kids doing their work I think
the thing just wore out. I think I got my money's worth.

Have always used Epson but their ink seems very expensive now.
So I bought a new HP Photosmart 7160 for $109 and it is great... six ink
cartridges at reasonable prices (and staples gives me $3 for every HP
cartridge i recycle!!). Lots of bells and whistles. And the color output
is incredible. so far Iam pleased.
