Hi,

Which would be a better value for a MAC?

1) DP G4/500/1M- 512M. RAM 40G. fixed DVD-RAM.
2) iBook G4/800/512k- 256M. 40G. fixed CD 12" screen.

Thanks,

THX

Depends on whether a portable is important to you or not. As always,
you get more performance per dollar in a desktop machine. If I didn't
need the portability in the above scenario, I'd probably go with the DP
G4 if the money were the same. It has more RAM, bigger cache, dual
processors, etc.

If you want portability, though, the iBook G4 is an *excellent*
machine; we own a 12" one, in fact. Only thing I'd change is up the
RAM to 640MB (the max), and it's a really wonderful, snappy machine for
what I use it for.

No question go with #1 - it can be upgraded easy - unless you really
need a laptop

In article < XXXX@XXXXX.COM >,

Cost is a major component of value. If #1 is $2000 and #2 is $5, number
two is a clear winner. If #1 is $500, and #2 is even close to that, #1
is better unless portability is a concern.

Thanks for the input everyone.
I wasn't so much interested in portability as I was in best value and
of usability.

The price difference of the two systems is around 200.00 in favor of
the desktop Mac.
