Setting Gamma on boot

Setting Gamma on boot

Post by Markus Bru » Fri, 24 Sep 2004 01:35:59

Hello everyone,

I happen to own an Octane running IRIX 6.5.20. When booting it up the
gamma values for the RGB-channels of Xsgi are about 1.2 each. This is
quite a bit too much light turning all colors into some kind of pale
copies of themselves. I used the "Display Properties"-program in the
toolchest to adjust the gamma values to approx. 1.0 which is the value
needed for my monitor to display colors right. The problem is that after
each reboot I have to do this again (actually I'm loading the saved
settings file). I tried to set the monitor settings as boot defaults as
root but that seems to affect resolution and frame rate only. How do I
set the gamma values right automatically at boot?

TIA
Markus

on shell as root type "gamma X.X" where X.X is a value, please read
the gamma man help carefull, because you might damage your monitor,
I'm not responsible for any damages you might cause with the incorrect
use of this command.

Cheers!

I can't imagine how it could be possible to damage a monitor by changing the
gamma.

Thx. That did the trick. And the hardware is still working :)
