Problem with Ultra2 hanging during initilization

Problem with Ultra2 hanging during initilization

Post by jv999 » Tue, 02 Mar 2004 02:09:11

I picked-up an Ultra2 the other day for short money. It was a headless
server, so I put in a 501-2633 video card and connected a type 5c
keyboard. When I turn it on, it does the initialization routine,
counts memory, says the keyboard is present, and then hangs forever.
No OK prompt and no boot sequence. Typing "stop-A" has no effect and
the caps lock button doesn't turn the little light on. The keyboard
works fine on my SS20. Any ideas?

Thanks

You might want to try a Stop-N to reset the NVRAM to the defaults.

Type L1-N (stop-N) during power on; that will reset the
PROM to possibly more sane values (it may, e.g., want to talk
to a tty only)

I did, it recognized the Stop-N, said it was resetting the defaults,
and then hung...

I reseated the memory, cpu, and scsi connectors which fixed the problem.
Thanks for the suggestions.
