Hi All,
first timer here ... just discovered the place ..:)
I have an oracle performance problem , which I think it mught come
from an sun hardware configuration.
have :
sunfire v240 , two scsi disks .
runnign o.s. + oracle 9i
when I am testing , I am the only user logged to hte oracle instance.
doing a loop insert of about 1000000 rows ,
I noticed very slow performance.
oracle statistics show waits on log write.
iostat shows k/w - no more (at picks) of 5000
when I try to copy a 1 gb file between disks I get k/w around 30000.
when I run same loop on a windows ( Iknow ... I know...) machine (
just a "normal" pc )
I get much bette rperformance.

any idea ??
thanks
Sahar

...

How's your memory? Oracle is a hog, maybe its due to swapping.

hi there ...
don't hink it is a memory problem memory looks o.k.
oracle stats shows bottleneck in writing to logs / files .
i saw that it is recommend to use disk wit hno cahce.
my question :
if I will mount using forcedirectio - will it be with no cahce?
andother mount q:
if i have a mountpoint I want to dismount and mount uinsg the
rorcedirectio - will i loose all my stuff on that mount ? - or it wil
jut be accessibledirect while it is mount wit hthat flag ?
thanks
