I'll appriciate if anyone could tell me how to do this in a "window"
way. The configuration from "sysinstall" is pretty irotating.

If you set your configuration up right, you should be able to
press ctrl + and ctrl - (+ and - on the number pad)

Or, you can wait for kde3.2 where there is a panel applet
that can change the screen resolution.

to change the resolution (effectivly changing the size and virtual size
at the same time) use ctrl.alt.+ or ctrl.alt.- to go up and down through
your resolutions defined in your XF86Config file. i don't know of any
way to change the refresh rate on the fly though
