patches breaking JDS on solaris 10 x86

I'm playing with Solaris 10 3/05 on a laptop. I'm using the Xorg
server (mostly because I know how to remap the control key to the right
place in the config file!).

I did an smpatch update, & semi-manually installed the patches it
didn't (the ones that need a reboot really).

After this, if I tried to log in using JDS, it froze absolutely solid -
I suspect Solaris was still running (but I was too clever with ipfilter
as it's sitting on an unfirewalled network, so I can't really tell if
it is since it doesn't ping anyway), but the mouse is frozen & keyboard
does nothing. I suspect the X server has just latched up solidly.

CDE still works fine.

Has anyone seen anything like this?

Is there anywhere to report issues like this on non-supported machines
to Sun? Do they want to know (not clear they should as it could
obviously be an artifact of whatever random soup of broken HW is in
this particlar laptop)?

Strange as I've done several installs of 5.10 03/05 in my learning
attempts and every smpatch cycle goes without a reboot to install ALL of
the patches. The only time I've ever locked up solaris was when I
installed the OSS sound driver for my M-Audio Revolution 7.1 sound card
(don't bother!).

Solaris 10 is about one of the most stable OS's I've ever used, although
I'm having a hell of a time getting the /usr/sfw/bin version of MySQL
working....I'll get that eventually.

What's the graphics card, is it ATI? If you're hit by a bug caused
by using MMIO on certain ATI cards which cause the system to hang

I think the workaround is to set RenderAccel to false (or NoAccel
to true or some such) or back out the Xorg patch.

Per Juergen Keil's bug report:

Section "Device"
Identifier "Card0"
Driver "ati"
VendorName "ATI Technologies Inc"
BoardName "Radeon RV200 QW [Radeon 7500]"
BusID "PCI:1:5:0"
Option "RenderAccel" "False"

Worked on my TP R40/Radeon 7500.
