Wireless Intellimouse Explorer 2.0

I recently purchased a combination MS Wireless Desktop
Elite Keyboard and Wireless Intellimouse Explorer 2.0. I
had previously been using a Wireless Intellimouse
Explorer. With my old Intellimouse Explorer I was able
to assign specific keystrokes to mouse buttons which I
use extensively in online *** . The Wireless
Intellimouse 2.0 doesn't appear to have the capability of
programing the buttons. Has anyone figured out how to
program them. Had I known I couldn't program the buttons
I wouldn't have purchased the mouse. Help if you can

Currently there's no way to do this. Take it back, if you can. The
Intellipoint 5.0 drivers lack many of the capabilities of the 4.1x
version, and the old drivers don't support the new mouse. I also find
the wheel too sensitive for *** , and the wheel button too hard to
press. This really isn't a *** mouse (although I find that it
responds pretty well in games, so at least in that respect it's not bad).

There's been a lot of discussion of these problems at
microsoft.public.mshardware.product. Nobody knows when Microsoft plans
to release new drivers, nor if they will fix the problems.
