Timezone and date problems Vista / XP

Post by Grote, Seb » Sat, 06 Sep 2008 00:28:43

Hi @ all,

users reported 2 issues to me where I'm currently not finding a solution
for.

1.) We have created a custom entity "Training. If Vista CRM client creates
an object of that type and setting a date field the date is displayed on a
XP client with one day difference. If the XP client corrects the date on
both clients the date is the same. Can anyone reproduce that behavior?

2.) On one CRM client occurs that if an email is attached to a contact or
lead the sending date of that mail is set to 2045/01/01 instead of send date
displayed in Outlook. Does anyone have a solution for me? Diagnostic and
repair install didn't solve.

All machines have the same patch level. All Outlook versions are 2007. All
crm clients are v4.0.

The date difference is probably due to a different configuration for the two
clients with respect to time zones.

CRM stores date (and date time) values as UTC. if you have one system set to
UTC+1 and the other to UTC. A date store on the first system will be stored
as 1-2-1 23:00 and this will display correctly (as 1-2-1), the second system
however will display 1-1-1. If the second system stores it the date is stored
as 1-2-1 0:00, the first system will convert this to 1-2-1 1:00 before
displaying it and therefore appear to show the same value.

Patrick,

thanks for your answer. I assumed that CRM would use same time zone settings
as the OS does but after verification at the clients I found out that you
are right :-)

This could be solved by fully re-installing the CRM client for outlook.
