Post by SmFtZXMgQ2 » Sat, 19 Apr 2008 16:02:00

The CRM version 4.0 upgrade process on my CRM 3.0 system fails with the
following error message:

Action Microsoft.Crm.Setup.Server.InstallConfigDatabaseAction failed.
Invalid user name. Failed to validate usernames for given domain. Only
existing domain usernames and e-mail addresses are allowed
Invalid user name. Failed to validate usernames for given domain. Only
existing domain usernames and e-mail addresses are allowed

The error message is repeated twice as shown above.

What could has cause this problem? I hope anyone could help me out. Thanks!

Update Background
----------------------
1. I perform the upgrade on the CRM server using the local server
administrator login id.
2. The CRM server, SQL 2005 server and Reporting Service are all in one
physical unit computer box.
3. I upgrade the SQL Server 2005 to Service Pack 2 before installing CRM 4.0
4. The configured access mode to SQL Server is mixed mode access.
5. There is no e-mail server or exchange server setup in the system.
6. The install/upgrade software was run on the same server.

Hi there,

I meant I have login as a CCSSDEMO\administrator to perform the CRM update
where CCSSDEMO is the domain name where my CRM server is configured.

I have typed the item 1 statement (Update Background) wrongly.

CRM 3.0 to CRM 4.0 Upgrade Problem

Hi!

I try to migrate a CRM 3.0 to 4.0

I got this problem :

Action Microsoft.Crm.Setup.Server.InstallConfigDatabaseAction failed
Invalid domain name. Domain name is either invalid or unreachable.

Only newsgroup said that you must be domain adminsitrator to install CRM 4.0.
Or to clean inactive DC controller badly deleted.

So these actions are impossible to do for me because the company is about
7000 computers with 42 Domain controller. So it's impossible for me, an
architect to say, give me the admin accounts to clean your main active
directory.

You can consult this link for more information, some people got the same
error :

Any idea on this issue!

I got this when upgrading CRM SBS on SBS 2003. The trick is to pull
the network cable after the upgrade has downloaded the required
components i.e. the C++ runtime. Trawling suggests the problem is if
the DC is on the same box and the server is plugged onto another
network with another DC. The upgrade gets confused on where to look.
No network cable, one DC, no confusion.
