A server certificate could not be validated for URL installing CRM

Post by TmljayBEb2 » Fri, 02 May 2008 20:53:01

Here is the situation:

CRM being installed on server1

SQL 2005 w/ reporting services on server2

server2 has a IIS SSL certificate (requires https:)

When installing, everything is cool except for when CRM checks the reporting
services link, I get the message:

A server certificate could not be validated for URL:
https://server2/ReportServer.

I can navigate to http://server2/reportserver in IE no problem, but choosing
this as the reporting services hyperlink, the CRM install complains that this
requires a secure connection.

I can navigate to https://server2/reportserver in IE, I get prompted with a

"The name of the security certificate is invalid or does not match the name
of the site"

It allows me to proceed and the reporting server site comes up fine.
However the installer is not smart enough to get beyond this.

Is there a quick workaround for this? My customer seems to think that the
certificate has been installed by one of the other admins for something else,
so we are not keen to muck with it.

Any ideas will be appreciated!

Cheers!
Nick

Nick - I don't think there's any way around it - you will need to use the
name on your cert when specifying the url, so that you don't get any
warnings.

ou can still use a secure url. Just make sure you are using the FQDN. Example, check your reporting services config manager, go to "Web Service URL" section. My guess you have something more like
https://server2.domain.com/ReportServer. If you use the FQDN it should continue on with no problem.
