IE icons show unknown program icon

Since I updated to IE7 the little program icons mostly show the unknow
program icon. A few will show the blue E for explorer or a website icon for a
favorite. But not all the time. I tried to use properties to assign the right
icon to it, but it says it's already using it. But it doesn't show up in my
favorites, tabs, or in the address bar. Any hints?

3. 930426- The default system icon is displayed for Internet shortcut files
when you use IE7

Can you provide the actual registry edit for the solution in the second article you offered (930426)? I'm asking because I cannot use that solution: The 'Apply' button is greyed out.

If this is considered 'hijacking' a thread I apologize.

I had the same problem. The PC was set to large icons. In display
properties, unchecking large icons and restarting ie7 restored the icons to
the displayed tabs.
