IE 7.0 on XP pro OS
I have three issues I cannot solve.
1.) when the address of a link does not end in .xxx than I get an error
"Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"
Example:
http://www.yqcomputer.com/
2.) When a page opens in the middle of the pages I find the same error
displayed.
Example:
http://www.yqcomputer.com/
on the right side, just below were it reads "check for updates" there is an
adverti *** t. All I see is the identical message.
3.) I cannot get IE 7.0 to accept cookies.
In fact I seem ot to be able to find my cookie file in the normal place, the
one I have is at
C:\Documents and Settings\Michael\Local Settings\Temp\Cookies
and has only the index file.
I have for weeks tried to correct the problem, and I did write to Microsoft
who has not responded about these problems.
My server, which has IE 7 with business server 2003 OS works properly.
Can anyone out there help me?
Thank you

Hi,
All 3 of these problems could be the work of a third-party security program.
1. I'm not sure of the cause- maybe an antiphishing filter? McAfee?

2. That ad is blocked on my computer because http://www.yqcomputer.com/ is in my
HOSTS file.
To check the HOSTS file in Windows XP...
Make sure that Windows is showing hidden files and is
not hiding file extensions for known file types then check for a HOSTS file
at [C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc] Open the HOSTS file with notepad. If
there are entries you wish to disable, you can put the pound sign (#) in
front an entry to disable it. Then File> Save. Or you can rename the HOSTS
file to HOSTS.OLD to disable it.

Is Spysweeper or another program adding sites to your HOSTS file?
More info: http://www.yqcomputer.com/

3. Blocked cookies- sounds like a security/privacy program at work. CCleaner
caused this problem for a while with IE7. An update for CCleaner fixed it.

ou may have a horked install of IE7. I suggest reading the following
link...

http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html#pre-install

...and then uninstalling and reinstalling IE7 per Sandi's tips, and using
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.mspx as the installation source,
not Automatic/Windows Update.

i,
Sorry, I lost track of this topic. These problems *still* sound like the
work of a security/privacy program.

Rename the HOSTS file to HOSTS.OLD See if the atdmt ad appears at
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/downloads/FX101321101033.aspx

Assuming that you have the CD or download, and can reinstall it, I would
uninstall Spysweeper to see if it's the problem.

You could try this test very briefly...
Startup in Safe Mode with Networking.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=315222 If the problem goes
away, a program that didn't load in Safe Mode is causing it. You will be
running with security programs shutdown. Connect to the internet for no more
than 20-30 seconds- just long enough to see if cookies are accepted and if
this URL will redirect as it should
