Adding custom buttons/shortcuts to the toolbar in IE7 on Win2k8?

Hello,

I'm trying out Windows 2008 and so far it seems to run much faster than
Vista SP1. I seem to be able to run almost everything I can with Windows
XP but I can't figure out how to add my custom icons back to the toolbar in
IE7.

I've installed this in the past on all my systems by creating a folder
called c:\install\iebuttons and I have about 10 urls with icons that I put
in the command bar of IE.

I have registry files I click on and it creates the shortcut I want - i.e.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Extensions\{3B296460-5FFE-47e0-B37A-AD8029A6EF8C}]
"Default Visible"="Yes"
"ButtonText"="Google"
"HotIcon"="C:\\install\\IEButtons\\google.ico"
"Icon"="C:\\install\\IEButtons\\google.ico"
"CLSID"="{1FBA04EE-3024-11D2-8F1F-0000F87ABD16}"
"Exec"=" http://www.yqcomputer.com/ +&num=10&hl=en&btnG=Google+Search&as_epq=&as_oq=&as_eq=&lr=lang_en&as_ft=i&as_filetype=&as_qdr=m3&as_occt=any&as_dt=i&as_sitesearch=&safe=images"

However when I've added all these registry entries, go to customize the
command bar in ie - they don't show.

Can someone tell me what I need to differently? Thanks!

I'll try and find a newsgroup for Win28K in case this should go there.

OK - I figured out what I was doing wrong. That registry trick still
works - but since x64 has two version of IE7- and by default it puts the
shortcut for IE7 32 bit on the desktop, I forgot to check if it made those
shortcuts in IE7 x64 - which it does!

OK - new update - since flash player doesn't work on 64 and half the web
pages I go to are flash in some way or another the new x64 bit IE doesn't do
me much good. So I'm back to the same question - what registry entries do
I need to make for it to work on the 32 bit IE.

Thanks

Adding custom buttons/shortcuts to the toolbar in IE7 on Win2k8?

I'm going to ask you another question since you figured this one out so
quickly! I have about 10 custom buttons I've added to the command bar. I
arrange them in a certain order, certain spacing. I have several machines
and would like to copy that exact layout ever time. Everytime there is an
update for messenger it adds itself back to my toolbar and for some reason
that completely rearranges the whole layout. Hopefully that makes sense.

Is there any way to save my toolbar layout and copy it to another computer
or restore it if messenger or something decides to throw itself into my
toolbar?

Thanks again

Hello,

Tha layout for the command bar is saved here:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\LowRegistry\CommandBar

It should be possible to back up or copy the key to another machine.

You can also try to lock that key by removing the "Set Value" permission.
