Money 2006 From Old Hard Drive to New Hard Drive

Post by Smlt » Sat, 05 May 2007 13:08:02

I'm using Money 2006 which is on a hard drive that's not in good shape,
although not crashed yet. I've already installed a new hard drive and want
to set it up with my present Money 2006. However, to download Money 2006
from Microsoft for the new drive I go through steps that seem to end up with
a downloaded trial version. Changing the trial version, as I understand,
requires a Windows Live ID password that is the same one used when I
purchased Money 2006 some months ago. I'm one of those people who likes to
change passwords now and then so although I have a Live ID password now it
isn't the one used when I purchased 2006 and that means I can't change the
trial download. Is there any way to do a simple copy or move of Money 2006
from the old hard drive to the new one?

Yes: You can clone the whole old hard drive with the software that
is typically included with a retail hard drive (such as
Seagate/Maxtor MaxBlast). Then let that cloned drive be your new C
drive. Otherwise, no.

Actually, if you have the same LiveID, I think you can use the
normal procedure, even tho you changed passwords on that LiveID.

To clarify, the LiveID that you used at the time of purchase does
not have to match what you have on your real Money file. You can
create a new empty (File->New->NewFile) with the old LiveID on it to
accomplish the job. After the upgrade has been applied, you can
return to your real Money file.
