Money 2004 Preimum online services expired a year too soon

Post by Stev » Mon, 20 Nov 2006 07:31:52

It happened because it has expired money software is only good for 2-3 from
the orginal manufacturing date not from when you install it on your computer
this would have been on the orginal licence agreement that was accepted
during setup and while setting up your file for the first time. They stoped
support and online services followed not to long after 10.10.06 for more
information take a look at http://www.yqcomputer.com/

Money 2004 Preimum online services expired a year too soon

Post by Manohar Ka » Mon, 20 Nov 2006 07:35:23

Hello all,

I have been using Money Premium 2004 for a year or so on my new PC. Today,
the "Online services" stopped working and the message said something about
"Online services have expired." After talking to my bank, I realized that it
was indeed MS Money online services that had expired. However, per the
license, the services expire Sep 1, 2007 or 3 years after installation,
whichever is earlier. I talked to MS support, but they said they don't
support the software anymore. Anyone (MVPs, especially) have any ideas as to
why this would happen, and if there is a fix.

Thank you!

I have no idea why this would happen, but the possible reasons include the
basic attitude about Money users at Microsoft. As I read what you are
saying, it sound like you have a point. But I have no idea what that will
buy you and suspect it isn't much. Sorry I don't know a better answer for
you.

Yes I was correct Money 2004 STD expires two years or Septmber 1st 2006 and
Deluxe Premium and Small Bussiness are 3 years or until September1st 2007
that is as per the licence agreement

What about "the services expire Sep 1, 2007 or 3 years after installation,
whichever is earlier" is this consistent with?

Granted this and several other users don't cite their installation dates.
But the MSKB item is pretty clear. The September 1, 2007, date from
Microsoft's own EULA Microsoft didn't mean SQUAT. Microsoft lied either when
they wrote it or they are now electing to unilaterally change its terms. Why
even bother saying Microsoft is going to do anything in the EULA? Just say
at the head "the EULA is all about the licensees obligation, Microsoft has
none."

From the online services policy in the "help.. about":

You will be able to use the Online Services in MicrosoftMoney 2004 Deluxe,
Premium, and Small Business for a period of three (3) years from
installation of the product or until September 1, 2007 (whichever is
earlier).

I think this is pretty clear on when the premium version expires -- I
installed April 2005, when I got a new machine. So, the expiration should be
Sep 1, 2007 and not anytime earlier. It says "installation of the product"
and not manufacturing date, and this is the EULA I agreed to.

The only thing I can think of, is if the date is the actual date of the
money file (I had the software on my old PC, and I installed the software
sometime 2004. Even in that case, the software should have expired sometime
in 2007.

To me, this seems to be a bug that Microsoft should resolve.

I have used MS Money for 8 years now (skipped versions after 2004). If the
online services thing means "your ability to access something we don't own,
but would still like to control," I might look into Quicken (unless they
have the same deal, but I love MS Money 2004). More than anything, I don't
know why anyone would want to control something which is not theirs. E.g.
Can you imagine same thing happen with Word/Excel?

ccually No its 3 years from when you installed it the activation was
automatic when your PID from the cd was sent to the server to tell MS the cd
has been used so it did expire when it was supposed to 3 years from the
installation of the cd or Setp1 2007 which ever is earlier in this case the
installation was.

Yes, it was.... sometime in 2004. But I don't remember any "Activation" --
also, this is a premium edition, so even with that should have carried over
into 2007.

installed in 2004, so 3 years would put me into 2007... no? I get the
point about PID... but the question is why did it expire in 2006.

Each CD is uniquely signed?

Are you saying the MSKB says support has ended, but online services will
continue until 9/1/07 for those who installed 9/1/04 or thereafter?

No. You were not correct. You said that it was 2 years from
the manufacturer date. Which is wrong. The eula clearly states
that it's from installation date. For me, this was April 2004.
I should have at least 5-6 months left!

Quoth the EULA:

2. DESCRIPTION OF OTHER RIGHTS AND LIMITATIONS.
? Expiration of Online Services. In accordance with the Microsoft Money
2004 Online Services Policy, you will not be able to use the Online Services
of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT (such as the ability to automatically and online:
1) track and update your accounts and investment values inside the SOFTWARE
PRODUCT, 2) synchronize financial data with MSNMoney, 3) pay bills, and 4)
communicate with your financial institutions) after expiration of the
following time periods:
? Microsoft Money 2004 Deluxe/Microsoft Money 2004 Premium/Microsoft Money
2004 Small Business: The earlier of three (3) years after your activation
of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT or September 1, 2007.
? Microsoft Money 2004 Standard: The earlier of two (2) years after your
activation of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT or September 1, 2006.

Well they've just created a huge incentive to "upgrade" to Money
2007. Prior to a couple of days ago, I was happy as a clam to
stay on 2004. Now my decision is between these very uncomfortable
positions:

1) Easy: Upgrade to Money 2007
2) Hard: Switch to Quicken
3) Hard: Live w/out the downloads

Most people will choose 1. So this kind of thing makes $$ for MS.
