MSN Messenger Installation Error 1601

Post by c2ljayBvZi » Sun, 01 Aug 2004 17:23:02

I'm not the only one with this problem. There are literally hundreds of websites out there with other people who can't repair/install/re-install MSN Messenger.

I've tried about 5 different fixes (renaming some DLL's, renaming folders, manually unregistering it, and so on...) and none of them work.

Of course Microsoft's website has absolutely NOTHING about this problem. In the meantime I can't use MSN Messenger.

Windows Messenger installs from the Windows Update page just fine. But about 90% of my contact list shows up as OFFLINE (when they are online), plus the functionality is limited.

WHAT IS GOING ON???

i saw this fix online:
START > RUN > type "msiexec.exe /regserver"
and then re-install...

but this doesn't work.

"To correct, do the following:
click Start, then Run, and type the following:
%systemroot%\system32\msiexec.exe /regserver
then click OK.

After this, run the install again."

i took this from another post on this forum.
it actually worked.
