MSN 7.0 - Video conversation - audio choppy

Post by Andrea » Fri, 06 May 2005 04:44:20

Hi,

I love the new video conversation as the video quality is superior to the
old video confererncing. I am trying to find out what hardware I need to get
that working correctly. I connect my Panasonic DV camera via USB cable.

When I use this on my fast desktop machine (2.4 GHz, multi-threading, 1 GB
RAM, 800 MHz FSB) all is great.

When I use my (new, cheap and good bargain) laptop (Celeron M 1.3 GHz, 256
MB RAM, 400 Mhz FSB) the sound is choppy. The picture sometimes gets some
weird stripes but then, after a couple of seconds, gets good again. I assume
that this is the equivalent effect for video as choppy audio. Anyway, my
question is, why is this happening? Do I need more RAM or is the laptop too
slow altogether? Do others see this too? If you don't and use a laptop,
what is your hardware?

Thanks in advance,
Andreas

Greetings Andreas,

You and your contact might try turning off the QoS Packet Scheduler. To do so, click Start,
then All Programs, then Accessories, then Communications, and then Network Connections.
Right click your network/internet connection, then click Properties. Uncheck the QoS Packet
Scheduler, then reboot and try again. If you're unable to uncheck QoS, simply select the
Uninstall button instead (note that this won't affect anything else).

Greetings Jonathan,

It was enabled on my side and disabled on the other side. Disabling (and
rebooting) did not change anything.
Do you have other ideas?

Thanks,
Andreas
