how do I get that to STOP trying to log on when I get connected? I tried
going to tools/options and unchecking run in background - but it still logs
on before MSN 6 which cancels MSN 6 - help?

well, I did that - it is still showing up and logging on at connection - I
unchecked it from the windows programs....how else do I get it off?

actually...when I go to log into v6 of MSN mess - it will then say that I am
signed OUT of .net messenger service because I logged into another - maybe
its not win mess - its another msn?? I don't know ...so confused - know
where I can find out what is actually logging in first? no icon on task bar
to show it?

Go to Start > Run and type:

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

Then press OK, and it'll want you to restart. Done!

Firstly, disable Windows Messenger 4.7 by opening it up, click Tools, Options, Preferences
tab and uncheck 'Run this program when Windows starts'.

If you've already done this, do you have Norton Antivirus 2003 installed? Norton added a new
"instant messaging scanning" feature to Norton Antivirus 2003, which can conflict with
Messenger and display this behavior. To stop it, open Norton Antivirus (Right click on the
Norton Antivirus icon in the System Tray/Notification Area (by the clock), choose 'Open
Norton Antivirus'), click Options, then Instant Messenger then uncheck MSN Instant Messenger
and click OK.

Also, if you completely remove Windows Messenger as Vertical Squirrel showed you how to do,
Remote Assistance, Whiteboard and Application Sharing will no longer function.
