This announcement is specific to MBSA 1.2.1 and the underlying MSSecure.XML
file that services the MBSA 1.2.1 tool.

MSSECURE.XML Data Version 2006.04.11.1 (for use by MBSA 1.2 and SMS SUS
Feature Pack) was last modified to a .1 release April 11, 2006, and is now
available for all supported languages (English, French, German and

The updated 2006.04.11.1 version corrects two minor bugs that would cause
MS04-003 and MS02-065 to incorrectly report 'greater than expected' warnings
on Windows 2000 machines if the most recent MS06-014 (MDAC) patches were

This was a minor bug fix release to correct these two issues. No other
changes were made.

We would like to thank Stefan Kanthak for reporting these issues and working
directly with us to resolve these items.

2. New MSSECURE.XML/EST Version 2006.09.26.0 Available

MSSECURE.XML Data Version 2006.09.26.0 (for use by MBSA 1.2 and SMS SUS
Feature Pack) was last modified today, September 26th, 2006, and is now
available for all supported languages (English, French, German and
Japanese). Today's release contains support for 1 re-release bulletin to
support MS06-049 and will be re-offered to all existing installations of
MS06-049. Today's newly-released bulletin cannot be supported by MBSA 1.2.1
(see KB306460 for details), so detection support is provided by the add-on
Enterprise Scan Tool (EST).

What is the Enterprise Update Scanning Tool (EST)? As part of an ongoing
commitment to provide detection tools for complex updates for bulletin-class
issues that are not supported by MBSA 1.2, a stand-alone tool may be
provided for certain bulletins. Microsoft will evaluate the detection and
deployment complexity of each bulletin, and provide detection support based
on the specifics of each release. When a detection tool is created for a
specific bulletin, customers will be able to script running the tool from a
command line interface, and process the results using an XML output file.
Detailed documentation will be provided with the tool to ensure customers
can leverage it quickly. See the following link for details

NOTE: The EST tool is only for use with MBSA 1.2 to support limitations in
the MBSA 1.2 scan tool to ensure complete security update detection support
for all bulletins released this month.
