Is there a way to approve all updates listed "Updates needed by computers"? I
have 630 updates availbale and only 268 needed by computers at present.

There isn't any way to list them by what is needed where they can be
appoved as a group.
You really should approve based on what updates you have tested and want to
deploy, not based on what is reported as needed. I can see the logic in
getting that type of view however if you want to do an initial approval and
don't want unneeded updates filling up your disk.

This is presumable all updates on all type of clients. For any individual client
I have not seen more that about 40 needed. Be aware that WSUS will report as
"Needed" updates that are superceded until the Superceding update is installed.
This will probably mean that about half you "needed" updates and not "needed" as
they are superceded.

What I did was approve those update that were not superceded then run WSUSCLT
/DETECTNOW on a client. Wait for the install shield and install the updates.
Reboot and run detectnow again. Wait for the client status to update in WSUS and
check for remaining "needed" updates. This will set the more or less correct set
of updates for that group. A few client may have a need for odd updates but
these will show in the WSUS console in due course and can be reviewed as and
when they do.

It all takes a few days at first but settles down quite quickly and will bee
only a small task but next months update releases.

Correct, select the update(s) to be approved, and click on "Approve". Select
the group(s) and type(s) of approvals to apply.

You might also want to take a look at the WSUS Operations Guide for more
information on "How to use.." the WSUS Admin Console.
