Upgrade from WSUS 2.0 SP1 to WSUS 3.0 error

Post by RGF2ZU » Thu, 17 May 2007 00:20:01

I have recieved the following error when upgrading one of my 2.0 SP1 boxes.

MWUS Installation Failed (Error 0x80070643: Fatal error during installation.)

I also recieved Event ID 11722.

Re-running setup goes thru the process of installing WSUS succesfully but
does not copy any of my updates or approvals (essentially the implace upgrade
failed). Is there a step where I can import those updates and approvals now
that WSUS 3.0 is installed after the fact as well as any thoughts why the
upgrade failed, etc/

Thanks
Dave

Hi Dave,

Can you attach the setup logs under %temp%\wsussetup*.log?

thanks,

Fei,
Thanks for the response. I have zipped up the log files but do not see a
upload facility in the reply. Not sure if you just want a cut/paste of the
logs or not.

Upgrade from WSUS 2.0 SP1 to WSUS 3.0 error

This has been followed up offline. I am posting here in case somebody else
is interested. This turns out to be an ACL issue. The backup directory used
here somehow does not have read access for the
Network Service role, in which the Windows Internal Database will be
running: Windows Internal Database is used here for upgrade if MS SQL 2000
or WMSDE was used .
