WSUS update Office SP3 asks Office cd for publisher

Post by Geert » Sun, 22 Nov 2009 22:00:58

Hi,

We have about 300 *** s with XP en office XP, all installed with
deployment. On some workstations we installed Publisher manualy from
the CD.

Now i am using WSUS 3 for updates and on the *** s with publisher i
get an error on the update Office SP3, saying it wants the publisher
cd. Is there a way for pointing the publisher install (cd) location to
a shared network drive instead of the CD so that update can get its
resources from there?

Tnx in advance for the assistance.

Geert

Yes, but it involves editing the registry on every client to point the
Office XP installation source to the UNC pathname of the network share in
order to faciliate unattended/installation by the WUAgent.

Unfortunately, I no longer have a reference to what key requires
modification, and I don't have an installed copy of Office XP to check. A
google search of this newsgroup with my name as author may turn up the
thread where I discussed (and referenced) the Office XP key required.

Google searched pointed to keys in local machine as in the classes
root...
Anyone know the right key(s)?

Try searching the registry for D:\. There will be a lot but one will belong to
publisher. Change it and see if it does the job.

found a location which works :
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\{<MS Office XP MSI Product Code>}
\SourceList\Net\

The values in this key are checked in numerical order for the
installation source.
By default the value 1 will be set to the original installation
location. In your case.
1=D:\

You can update this value to a network share to avoid having to
reinstall office on these machines.

Tnx for the assistance
