Windows XP client denies access from domain controller

Post by alex.baile » Wed, 03 Sep 2003 16:27:04

I have 5 identical(?) WinXP client machines and a win2000 SBS domain
One of the clients is behaving differently in that:-
1) I get 'access denied' when I try to manage anything on it from the
domain controller's console.
2) User's roaming profiles cannot be found/loaded on login even though
I can see the Profiles folder from the client and have tested that I
can write to it manually.

Are these 2 situations related? I have tried leaving and rejoining the
I suppose I have a slight mis-configuration somewhere. Any ideas?

1. active directory Error; Access was denied when trying to contact the windows NT domain controller

2. Thinking about turning Windows 2000 Domain Controller into a Windows 2003 Domain Controller

In ;en-us;325379

"Hotfixes to install before you run adprep /Forestprep on a Windows 2000 domain controller to prepare the Forest and domains for the addition of Windows Server 2003-based domain controllers"

it says:

Preventative fix: . Service Pack: Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 (SP2) or later
.. Hotfix in article 303077

so I decided to see what 303077 had to say. It says this:

"The Knowledge Base (KB) Article You Requested Is Currently Not Available"

So what's the story here? Thanks.
