Hmmm so delete the text there and paste again into the same doc modified to
Shift_JIS? Or make a new Shift_JIS doc? I got this page to work as JIS:
http://www.yqcomputer.com/ 't work
as either: http://www.yqcomputer.com/

Could it have to do with copying tables from other documents and pasting them
into this page?

Why do they look fine on my system before uploading them? I'm previewing in 4
browsers.

The doc was sent to me via email as .rtf. It's now in a TextEdit as .rtf.

Cheers

I don't work much on a Mac, but I suspect it may be saving the Japanese in
the Mac OS encoding, which is why you see everything fine on your system,
but not once it's uploaded to your Linux server. I've just done a quick test
with TextEdit, and this is what I suggest.

1. Make a backup of the original Japanese file sent to you, and work with a
copy.

2. In TextEdit, Select Format > Make Plain Text. You will be warned about
losing fonts, text styles, etc. Click OK.

3. Save the document. In the dialog box that opens, select Japanese Shift
JIS or Unicode UTF-8 from the Plain Text Encoding drop-down menu.

You should then be able to use the plain text to paste into a web page with
the approriate encoding. If you don't get the Japanese options in the
TextEdit Save dialog box, you may need to activate Japanese on your system.
If I remember correctly, it's in System Preferences.

Wicked! You are so 'The Man'

Got it. There seems to have been something about the tilde (sp) "~" in the
following line: ?2005????????????????? That "~" mark, once replaced, sorted it
out.

Glad you got it sorted. One day, hopefully not too far in the future, all
this encoding business will be a thing of the past - assuming UTF-8 becomes
universally supported (which is the basic idea).
