Problem combining template & ssi

Problem combining template & ssi

Post by Zam348 » Fri, 05 Nov 2004 09:58:23

I have problem combining the template parameters with ssi. It goes like this,
I put the include parameters in the template, once I spawn the child, I found
out that I can modify the whole items in that child page (suppose the only
thing that can be edited is only the editable region). The Template Properties
option from the Modify menu also disable. And what makes me curious is that
there is an error from my chlid page listing <!-- InstanceBegin
template="/Templates/template3.dwt.asp" codeOutsideHTMLIsLocked="false" -->.
Although I follow article instruction from Macromedia.com entitled Using
Parametes with Includes, things doesn't work for me. Anyway, here is my
template tags.

<%@LANGUAGE="JAVASCRIPT" CODEPAGE="1252"%>
<html>
<!-- TemplateParam name="enterInc" type="URL"
value=""/include/penny.htm"" -->

<head>
<!-- TemplateBeginEditable name="doctitle" -->
<title>Untitled Document</title>
<!-- Templa *** dEditable -->
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">

</head>

<body>
<table width="780" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">
<tr>
<td> </td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td> </td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td> </td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td><img src="../logoAtas.gif" width="780" height="120"></td>
</tr>
</table>
<table width="780" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">
<tr>
<td><!-- TemplateBeginEditable name="Kandungan" -->Kandungan<!--
Templa *** dEditable --></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td> </td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td> </td>
</tr>
</table>
<p> </p>
<!--#include file=@@(enterInc)@@-->
</body>
</html>

Any suggestion???

Are you really coding a JSP page?

Try to changing this -

<%@LANGUAGE="JAVASCRIPT" CODEPAGE="1252"%>
<html>
<!-- TemplateParam name="enterInc" type="URL"
value=""/include/penny.htm"" -->

<head>
<!-- TemplateBeginEditable name="doctitle" -->
<title>Untitled Document</title>
<!-- Templa *** dEditable -->
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">

</head>

to this -

<%@LANGUAGE="JAVASCRIPT" CODEPAGE="1252"%>
<html>
<head>
<!-- TemplateBeginEditable name="doctitle" -->
<title>Untitled Document</title>
<!-- Templa *** dEditable -->
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">

<!-- TemplateParam name="enterInc" type="URL"
value=""/include/penny.htm"" -->

</head>

(Note that penny.htm should not contain <html>, <head>, or <body> tags.)

Now save this template page and spawn a child. Is the MODIFY | Template
Properties function active in the child page?

It works.. after deleting <html>, <head>, or <body> tags in penny.htm
everything is back to OK. Does this also apply to pages such as .asp, .php
etc. that we want to include it in to certain page?? Thanks anyway Murray.

Yes - always.

The final aggregate page must itself be a valid HTML document. This can't
happen if those tags are duplicated.
