confused about using templates or includes

Post by Rajiv Vais » Mon, 13 Mar 2006 11:34:01

hello

I am facing one problem with templates in dreamweaver.

visit www.smtbc.in/index.asp

This is my design which i am going to use throughout the website.

Its a full database driven website with asp/vb/access.

Now my query is as u can see i tried putting two list boxes on the page in
the mainbody editable region,

i am able to add recordsets perfectly but i want a dynamic dropdown list ,
for that i am using Kermy Dynamic dropdown, but when i add that SB it says
you cannot add this beacuse the area is locked and the changes will be
discarded,

I tried putting that templateinfo = true and false i tried with both but no
luck, it is not allowing me to add only KERMY DYNAMIC dropdown, i can add
other sever behaviour, recordsets but not this, please help me with this.

And other advice i need is, for this kind of design, what should i use , A
template or Includes, kindly guide me with respect to my design, this design
is going to remain the same through out the website, and the site is going
to have 5000 different stationey items.

I am really looking forward for help from you gurus.

Kindly help.

Also one more query, since its a database thign, it is going to have many
many record sets, so instead of designing recordsets in every page can i
design an asp page which holds all the recordsets and then i call that asp
file in to other pages by includes, or is there any other effective way of
doing this ????

please help.

Thanks in advance
regards
rajiv

> I tried putting that templateinfo = true and false i tried with both but

Randomly twiddling bits without understanding what you are doing or why is a
great way to thoroughly confuse yourself, and to break your pages
irreversibly.

Can you show me a page with this KERMY SB applied that is NOT a template
child page? I'd like to see the code.

I would use both. The template would hold the page images, links to
stylesheets, and includes, and any other content that will not change, and I
would use includes for navigation, and for header/footer links.

I'm not sure what you think this will do for you....

Can you apply it to a NON-template page? That's what I asked for -
