Flash 8 static text, not showing in flash 7 player.

Post by Urme3 » Tue, 14 Mar 2006 18:30:30

Hi,

I made an flash file with some texts etc exported with flash player 8.. and
apparently the static text doesn't show up if you have flash player 7. I used
"Ant-Alias for animation". The font is a font most users doesn't have in their
systems.

What is the best solution to show the text in Flash Player 7? Because they
don't get a message that they need flash player 8 to view the .swf files. They
just can't see the text.

Do I need to break apart the texts before I publish it? But that's a pain when
you need to change the text.

You cannot expect a movie published for FP8 to work on FP7 (or earlier).

Publish for FP7 if you want it to play on FP7. Very simple.

That's true ofc, but the visitors can't see if they need Player 8 or not, can
you make some sort of script so they get a download notification just like when
you don't have flash player installed at all, not even 7.

But...all other versions of flash would display a normal text field properly in older players - why
would this specific text setting prevent older players from rendering it? never been an issue
before. "Anti-alias for animation" is a flash player 8-only feature? I can use flash 8 to create a
doc with a text field at this setting, publish it to any player other than player 8, test movie and
not one single warning that I am using features only supported in player 8.
If i set the text field behavior to something else like "Anti-alias for readability" and test, then
yes, flash pops up a warning that i need to publish to player 8 to use this feature.

in other words - are you saying that any text field setting in flash player 8 will not render to
older players? Not in my experience. Setting a text field to "Anti-alias for animation" will render
to older players - it is backward compatible just like previous versions of flash. It is not a flash
player 8-only feature.

as to why the OP is having problems - could be he/she just needs to set text field to static or if
dynamic embed the font outlines.

oh - ok - i mis-read this - OP is publishing to player 8 and testing with an older player - my bad -
although i am surprised that this text setting wont display - usually some content will render
fine. Flash has player detection built in (publish settings). Just check the help docs, devnet or
search this forum - "player detection" gets asked at least once a week - i personally have posted
several articles multiple times - i will try and find those posts...
