Flash 8 Button text not displaying in Flash 7 player

I've encountered a problem several times over the past couple weeks. Sometimes,
but not every time, button text in a SWF published as Flash 8 format won't show
up in browsers using the Flash 7 plugin.

I've seen this in IE on the PC. Not sure about OSX.

:confused;

Yes I am having the exact same problem here as well. My main swf is just a
bunch of individual swfs loaded into movieclip containers using action
scripting. Problem is half the content and text does not appear when viewing
under flash player 7. I was hoping to find information on how to check if a
person is running Flash Player 8 first and direct them to download it prior to
viewing my page. I am familiar with asp.net (c#) and php so any method would
be nice.

Hi mmckaskle is your <object> <embed> code saying your content is Flash version
7.x? I have a hunch that's why.

Publishing my .swf as Flash 7 format fixed the issue for me. I believe using
the object embed code Flash 8 outputs will prompt users to upgrade, though I
haven't had a chance to test it out.

You cannot display Flash 8 SWF static text in Flash Player 7 or earlier.

This is a documented issue. There are similar issues with some shapes as
well.

Flash 8 uses a completely new and different tag in the SWF file for static
text that earlier flash players will simply ignore.

You really need to ensure that the user has the required player ... old
players cannot be expected to play newer SWF files. If your SWF IS able to
be played in and older player(because it doesn't use newer features) then
you should publish it for that older player. There is little advantage in
publishing for a higher version of player than what you need .. it just
reduces your possible audience.
