PHP to ASP

Post by Matin Boo » Thu, 09 Oct 2003 19:49:30

I cannot access the ASP General newsgroup, so I'm posting
this here instead. I hope no one will have a problem with
that.

I have recently been hired by an e-company that wants me
to replace all the PHP code in their website with ASP
code. That something that doesn't happen very often, but
it needs to be done. An unusual assignment for a student
like me, but a welcome change from the usual PHP related
things I do.

Now I have been thinking, in the past I have used a couple
of tools that converted ASP code to PHP code. Those were
really usefull. But are there any tools that do the exact
opposite, converting PHP to ASP? I am by no means an ASP
expert, so I could really use something like that.

Cheers - Martin

I think the best tools to use would be your brain and www.php.net to
interpret functions you don't recognize in php. PHP isn't that hard to read
and understand what's going on. Once you realize that all vars start with $
and the . is the concatenator symbol, you're halfway through being able to
read the code.

there is no tool to convert php to asp because asp is a set of objects and
supports multiple languages, and php is a language

The best tools I have used was teh PHP.net site, and my own hands. It's how
I learned ASP, and I believe it is the quickest and most reliable way of
doing it.

No, his statement is accurate. ASP isn't a language.
