Running apps in XP with Admin access in a Non-Admin account

Post by Colin B Ma » Mon, 17 May 2004 20:17:53

Hi all, my application cannot seem to run (will explain) unless it is
running in an admin account in XP.
If I am a non-admin account, I get file errors and I cannot even open
files for reading and/or writing.

I do not want to use the 'run as other user' since I do not want the
current PC users to get admin access.

I will like to see the app run as an administrator - without prompting -
in the non-admin logged in account.

Thanks again.......

Under W2000/XP, put your data files into "Documents and Settings", never
into "Program Files". Do a search for SHGetSpecialFolderLocation on
groups.google.com to see how to get the "Documents and Settings"
folder's path.

Use a decent setup program (I recommend InnoSetup) to create
the directories you want to write in, and to set the access
rights for "normal" users. This way your app will run fine
under a normal user account.
