SQL Server 2000 connection

SQL Server 2000 connection

Post by Alan » Fri, 03 Oct 2003 10:09:17

I have SQL Server 2000 installed in one machine and created a user for that
SQL Server 2000 instance:
username: 'Alan'
password: 'ABC'

Do I need to create a logon/user for the database that I want to access ?

I create a login for the Northwind database in the server machine and added
into it.
Now on my machine, put a TADOConnection on a form and tried to build a
connection string using the wizzard.
Select the Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server, NEXT,
Select the server machine name from the drop down box, then enter the
username and password,
then select the database on the server, but when I click the down arrow it
gave me an error:
[DBNETLIB.......
Database does not exist or access denied.
Any idea ?

it in.

Just want to make sure are the steps correct in setting up a login user
account in SQL Server.
Server machine:
1) Create Windows user account, eg. 'testAlan'
2) Goto SQL Server 2000 enterprise, create user for this 'testALan'
3) Goto Database in Enterprise Manager, Northwind, create user for
'testAlan' so that 'testAlan' can access Northwind.

Client machine:
1) Goto Delphi IDE
2) Setting up the ADO connection string.

Any idea ?

it
get it
characters in

In the MsSql 2000 user manager you have forgot to set the default database for the user.
It defaults to "master" and the user does not have access rights to master.
Change it to "NorthWind" and your problem should go away.
