MS SQL resultset compression?

Hello all,

does anyone know if it's possible to make Microsoft SQL
Server 2000 and its OleDB driver transfer their recordsets
in some kind of compressed form over the network, to reduce
bandwidth?

I know it's possible using some kind of middleware, but
I really don't want to go the 3-tier way.

I don't know of any direct way of setting it up, but I think the data
packets being sent are pretty much optimised to the max anyway. The data
actually going through the wire is fairly thin. So I doubt much traffic
improvement could be achieved.
