BC5 Windows 2000/XP/Vista Support?

Post by Greg Andrz » Fri, 23 May 2008 09:33:16

Anybody use Borland C++ 5.x on a Windows 2000/XP/Vista machine? Does
everything work okay? The reason I ask is that it's the last Borland
compiler to produce 16-bit DOS real mode applications. I need real
mode because I'm banging directly on hardware registers.

Also, has anyone been able to get a version of Turbo Vision to work
with 16-bit real mode DOS? Borland open-sourced it about 10 years ago,
and there is still active support for it, but not for 16-bit
compilers. I was able to compile the original sources released by
Borland with BC 4.5, but I get linker errors if I try to do anything
fancy.

Thanks,
Greg Andrzejewski

2. How to get Vista look on Vista, XP look on XP, 2000 look on 2000

I have a Win32 application (written in pure C++, no MFC) that runs fine
on anything from Windows 95 to Windows Vista.

In my dialog resources, I use the following font:

FONT 8, "MS Shell Dlg"

I would like this application to inherit Vista look if (and ONLY IF)
it's run under Vista. That means 9pt Segoe UI in all dialogs. ALL
dialogs are made in such a way that font size change does not cause any
visual problems whatsoever. In other words, if I _manually_ change all
.RC files to say "FONT 9, 'Segoe UI'", it looks good. But I do NOT want
to manually change RC files.

Can someone tell me how to get Segoe UI 9pt font in all dialogs while
making sure the app runs fine on previous Windows versions? I repeat, I
do not use MFC, pure Win32.

I hope someone has thought of this. Thank you.
