Why Borland does not use Crystal Report for Delphi

@newsgroups.borland.com:

Thank you borland for this. I find crystal reports to be very
limited (compared with Report builder for delphi) and a mess to
setup and support I wouldn't touch it for anything. I haven't
used the latest third party suite that comes with D7 yet so
I do not know how it compares with crystal but if it is a native
solution and not a number of external dlls then I will prefare it
over crystal anytime.

In D8 I have heard that borland uses Crystal as their reporting
solution.

Regards
Yannis.

No, Crystal ships with C# Builder. Delphi 8 ships with Rave
Reports, just like Delphi 7.

While I personally prefer Crystal Reports (version 8,
specifically), it does take some getting used to, and hasn't
targeted Delphi as a supported IDE very well. It's also quite a
bit more expensive, so that could have had something to do with it.
It's also not quite pascal. Rave integrates better with Delphi,
and I can't argue against including something that fits in the IDE
better.

Why they should?
I love Rave Reports Code Based.
I hate Crystal.
Just a question of opinion.

It may also have to do with brain/report generator resonances. :-)

I too, like Nevrona code-based reporting. For some reason the RAVE visual
way of doing things causes my brain to oscillate out of tune. I use
FastReport for the easy to medium-hard stuff. I use Nevrona code-based for
the *impossible* to do stuff!

I wrote my own classes where i can write all kind of stuff in
a very easy way.
I was also developing a report designer that would generate code
for use with my classes, unfortunatelly in the last 6 months
I'm working in a very weird job, where i never had to do a report,
so this tool have been my last priority.
Think of that I'm planing to move to Java, all i have to do with
my reports is rewriting the super classes in one not banded report engine for java, and the same hapens with any other language and plataform.

Neither FastReport or Nevrona allows interactive Drill Down.
A Feature we use extensively in Crystal.
We also hate Crystal.
But no delphi compatible reporting is it's equal.

Robert.

What is interactive Drill down?
I guess is what VPE(Virtual Print Engine) calls Live Reports.
CAn you tell me about a site where i can see interactive Drill down in action.
