Connecting to an internet database.

Connecting to an internet database.

Post by Andrew Tuc » Wed, 20 Sep 2006 05:44:03

Not sure how to do this, as I'm new to internet databases, but I want to be
able to connect to an MSAccess database on another computer with a web address.
For example http://www.yqcomputer.com/
http://localhost/data/members.mdb

How do I go about this, and what components should I use. Do I have to have a
server application running in order to access the data???????

Thanks,
Andy Tucker.

You cannot really do this. HTTP doesn't (really) offer the type of
random access required to update an access database and MS Access has
no true client server protocol.

The only way would be to download the database to a temporary folder
on the local PC and open it there (obviously changes won't be made to
the network copy)

It's not exactly the same, but:
Once I tried the MS-ADO Remote Provider and it worked (if I remember
correctly...).
Set the ADOConnectionString to
Provider=MS Remote;Remote Server=http://myserver;Remote
Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=c:\data\my.mdb;

It uses HTTP (Port 80)
