windows 98 to Windows 98 SE or beyond

I have an HP Pavillion N3110 laptop. Operates with
windows 98. I have networked the house with a wireless
Linksys system. I have the network adapter WPC54G that
requires 98SE. What can I do to make my 98, 98SE, if
anything?

You need to upgrade to something that will support the Linksys system which
is Win98SE or XP. If you go for Win98SE, the retail versions are hard to
find now and usually run about $140, best bet is Ebay where they average
$25-40. Just be careful, Do not get a OEM version and make sure the disk has
a registration code with it.

Purchase a W98SE cd disk. They cannot be downloaded, and using the Windows
Update feature will not convert a W98 OS into a W98SE OS. Microsoft no
longer markets W98SE, so they are scarce. Try eBay, but be very careful
which version you select.

I recommend a RETAIL (not OEM) version, and there are 3 different ones: the
UPDATE cd (cheapest, but requires that W98 first edition already be running
on your machine), the UPGRADE cd (requires proof of purchase of a previous
Windows OS. Proof is established by simply inserting the floppy or cd disk
when requested to do so during the W98SE installation process), and the FULL
INSTALL cd (no existing OS required).
