After loading new encyclopedia software last night I am
getting the above error message. I was able to start Win98
in safe mode and remove the software but when try to start
Win98 again the error message occurs again. I checked the
bios settings and they were fine. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

ej

In safe mode, run sysedit. Copy and paste the contents of autoexec.bat
and config.sys in a reply to this post.

Hi Bill:

It took me several hours Wednesday night but I think I was
able to resolve the issue. In safe mode I read through the
trouble shooting help and commented out anything
in the autoexec.bat and config.sys that wasn't Microsoft.
It looked like there was some non Microsoft stuff being
loaded more than once. Once I did that Win98 started okay.
Another problem arose when I tried to reload the Wacom
driver for a pen and tablet (easier on the wrists than a
mouse) and the system didn't like it. Finally got that
resolved and Win98 seems to be okay again.

Thanks,

ej
