Ad-aware [SE] Update [1R8] 13.09.2004

Post by Mart » Tue, 14 Sep 2004 22:31:48

Thanks Silj, just tried it and oddly, in spite of the 'download' progress
bar completing, it didn't 'update' on the first attempt. So tried it again
and it worked OK the second time.

Don't ask!!

Same here, Mart. I closed and re-opened Ad-aware to see if it required
restarting to complete, but no, it still failed to update until downloaded a
second time. Wierd.

Post by Stefano Ma » Wed, 15 Sep 2004 01:40:54

Hello.

I'm still using the AdAware 6.181
I'd like to know if the new AdAware 1.04 is better and why.

Thanks.

Ad-aware v6.181 has now only limited support and that may be withdrawn
at any time. There is too much to explain of the new features and benefit of
the new build to describe here, please visit the Lavasoft Forum.

Yes, and that the new version detects *more* adware pests!
Note that you must fully uninstall any previous build via Add/Remove Programs.

And mine didn't work until it froze and I rebooted......and it had some
sorting out to do. I saw it was for 1.04, so removed 1.03, installed 1.04,
downloaded the defs.....found they were included.......started to run it and
then it froze. So I had to reboot......et voila!!

This AA 1.03/1.04 is a PITA compared to Spybot these days!! Are you sure
they are not *beta testing* it on the unsuspecting public???? Shades of
Zone Alarm, LOL!!

Programs.
When installing an updated version of AdAware one of the first things that
comes up in a pop up box is the choice of uninstalling the older version.
This is done via the new version installation process and has always been
accomplished without any resulting problems. Having said that, why do you
make specific note to uninstall previous versions/builds via Add-Remove
first?

That was only in reference to the old v6.181 the German poster has installed.
You may use Ad-aware to run the uninstaller for you, that's not a problem.

1.04,
and
sure

Yep.....that I did. Guess I must be the *Witch of the West* after all. I
figured that was what was going on, due to all the freezing and general
problems a lot of people were having. Both on here and on a.c.v.

I guess they were in a hurry to outdo Spybot or some such, but I am not
impressed with software companies that do that to the general public.

Stepping down off my soap box now!! 8-))

I'm still running v1.03 ;)

SpyBot has it's issues too, SpyBot "SearchForIt" False-Positive
