problem installing virtual pc for windows 98 on windows 98 SE

one time I got the error
"One or more files from the Virtual PC installation is missing"

which is in the MS knowledge base (now archived in google by
kbalertz.com)
http://www.yqcomputer.com/

It said to put 2 files in the system root. So I put them in
c:\windows\system32
I ran it, it didn't work. I tried putting them in c:\windows and
c:\windows\system, but it still didn't work.

It also said, to Add New Hardware, Click Have Disk, and refer to a
sys file.
I couldn't figure out how to do that, since you have to specify what
Hardware Type you want to install. Even if you click other, it still
gives a long list of types.
So really, it's the Add New Hardware thing i'm having a problem with.

In article < XXXX@XXXXX.COM >, in the
microsoft.public.virtualpc news group, James Hanley <jameshanley39
@yahoo.co.uk> says...

That article refers to Virtual PC 5.2 and earlier (when it was still a
Connectix product). If you're trying to install VPC 2004 (the Microsoft
product) on 98, it isn't supported, and won't work.

i'm using v4.3
there was no article for v4.3 that i could find. But 5.2 is close.

if i was trying to install VPC 2004 it'd have told me that i was
running it on the wrong operating system - diff error to the one I
got.
