MASTER Template - can I have a "child" page as a sub-master page?

Post by Cody2 » Sat, 07 Apr 2007 02:33:19

his is a multi-part message in MIME format.

Confusing title; yea .. sorry. I couldn't figure out how to ask this.

I have a site.MASTER page that has a bunch of pages associated to it. Works great. However, I have about 3 of those pages that I want to create some unique menu items for. Does EW allow for this? That is, if a page is already associated with the site's .master template, can I inherit everyting in it as well as make a new .master for a subset of pages?

Hope this makes sense.

Here's what I'm trying to do:

mysite.Master
- page 1
- page 2
- page 3
- page 4
+ new .master for sub pages
- page 5 - with 2 new menu items .. but also include the initial .master menu items.
- page 6 - "
- page 7 - "

Thanks

MASTER Template - can I have a "child" page as a sub-master page?

I was able to go to Format - Dynamic Web template and attach another template
to certain pages with no problems. I then made changes and it knew that one
page was attached to this template

his is a multi-part message in MIME format.

there's no reason you can't have more than one .master page.
also, look at the asp.net 2.0 navigation components. you might find that you can use one of them to reveal your page specific menu items automatically based on the navigation structure only on the pages you want those menu items to show up on. I'm thinking treeview modified to look like what you want might be the trick. that way you won't need the extra .master.

I should have read yor answer a little closer..

I am using MASTER pages, not DWTs ... I'm presuming the same would apply.

You can nest master pages. I've done it on a site that goes live in two
weeks. It isn't quite ready for prime time or I'l post a link.<g>
